Episode 103: Guilt-Free Motherhood for Women Entrepreneurs

Do men ever get asked the question, So, how do you balance work and parenting? No, but we women get asked things like this all the time. How do you run a business and still make time for your role as a mom? What do you do about the guilt from not spending enough time with your kids? How do you keep it all together?

I’ll be the first to say that I don’t have it all together. There are some key foundational things in my life that are working really well, but I have invested many years into making that happen. I’ve done the reps and the inner work, so that I can have more ease now. But I’m still figuring it out. Kids don’t come with an instruction manual. My daughter is 13, and I go through each new stage one by one. I look to others who are further ahead on the parenting journey than I am.

One thing I don’t do is feel guilt for not spending more time with my daughter. I have set intentional blocks of quality time aside for her, and of course, I’m always here if she needs me, but I’m leaving—and living—a legacy for her that goes way beyond our time together. She sees that her mom has big dreams and goals and is demonstrating every single day what it is to be passionate and on fire for the life she is leading. She sees that her mom is pushing the boundaries of what is possible and is still showing up even when she’s scared. Watching me live my dreams is impacting her in a bigger way than any legacy of monetary wealth I could give her.

  • My daily de-stressing ritual before I pick my daughter up from school
  • How I balance humility/kindness with not taking any shit

I have an obligation to my daughter to walk the talk, be bold and courageous, and to do great things with my life. What are you modeling for your kids?
